When Krishnaraja Wodeyar Bahaddur III became the emperor of the Mysore Kingdom, this place was known as Arikutaara. His father, Chamarajendra Wodeyar was born here in the March of 1774. The only thing remaining of the then palace is the this birthplace. It is known by the name 'Janana Mantapa'. Many festivities and holy celebrations take place here. Since this village was the birthplace of the King's father, the King not only renamed it after him as Chamarajanagara, but in 1826, he also built the new Sri Chamarajeshwara Swami with Sri Kempananjaamba Temple, in their name. The idol of Lord Eeshwara is the main deity here.
