Pilgrims visit Yamunotri Temple in Uttarakhand, one of the sacred destinations of the Char Dham pilgrimage. Devotees walk along a narrow path with green railings and covered shelters built against the steep, rocky Himalayan mountainside. Orange and red temple buildings and a stony stream are visible beyond the busy market lanes, where shops sell marigold garlands, snacks and religious offerings. A flower-decorated palanquin, draped in colourful cloth, is carried through the crowded passage. At the temple entrance, thick strings of orange, yellow and white marigolds frame a gate bearing the Hindi inscription “Om Jai Maa Jamune Maiya.” Pilgrims gather near the entrance grilles, raising their hands and mobile phones as they wait to enter the shrine.
