As a part of the ancient ritual of Chhath Puja, the devotees offer prayings to the Sun god and her sister by doing prostration march. Rolling in the sand and drawing a line with their finger the devotees advance towards the ghats to make their offerings and complete the pujas. Chhath puja is performed on Kartika Shukla Shashthi, which is the sixth day of the month of Kartika in the Vikram Samvat. This falls typically in the month of October or November in the Gregorian English Calendar. It is also celebrated in the month of Chaitra.
