A Green Grasshopper having lunch in Indonesia. Grasshoppers or Omocestus viridulus come from the class of insects and generally have short bodies and ovipositors. They make sound or stridulate by rubbing their hind legs against their wings. They have ears at the front of their abdomen. Males stridulate to attract females. Each species of grasshopper has a unique chirp or song and can be identified by this. Grasshopper females lay eggs in soil. The nymphs hatch around April the following year. Grasshopper nymphs look like little adults except they do not have developed wings. They grow through several molts (shedding their exoskeleton) over a month until they are adults with fully functioning wings.
