Om Puri speaks about his childhood. He says, "I come from a small town and high School I did in my village, did my college in Patiala and that's where I became a part of a theatre group kind of a semi-professional theatre group so after my college hours I used to work with them. I did my graduation and through that group, I came to know about National School o Drama so I joined National School of Drama for three years and after I passed on from there one-year freelancing in Radio, television, theatre in Delhi and then I joined Film Institute Pune for another two years then I came to Bombay in 1976.
