The ShinMaywa (formerly Shin Meiwa) US-2 is a Japanese large STOL amphibious aircraft designed for air-sea rescue (SAR) work. The US-2 is scheduled to replace the older ShinMaywa US-1. The aircraft is currently operated by the 31st Fleet Air Wing (71st Air Force, 71st Flight Squadron) at Iwakuni air base and Atsugi air base. In 2012, the US-2 is being introduced to the Indian Navy to enhance its search and rescue capabilities with no word yet if they will accept the aircraft.[1][dead link] In May 2013, two sides decided to establish a Joint Working Group to explore the modality for the cooperation. 8th Defence Expo 2014 featuring land, naval and internal homeland security system exhibition, organised by the Department of Defence Production, Ministry of Defence at Pragati Maidan in New Delh
