The return of upbeat Indian sports contingent from the bank of Asian Games towards the end of 1998 underlines that perhaps Indian sports was more than just cricket. After 32 years the Indian hockey team had won a gold in the Asian Games. In athletics, it was the turn of the golden girl from Bengal Jyotirmoyee Sikdar, who won two gold medals in the 800 and 1500 meter runs to bask in her glory by the end of the year belong to the young Manipuri laid Dinko Singh, who proved all his detractors wrong by winning a gold in boxing in the bantamweight class at the Bangkok Asiad.
