Khasi women sit together in a circle making pans and stacking them together. A paan or betel quid, an Indian after-dinner treat that consists of a betel leaf (Piper betle) filled with chopped betel (areca) nut (Areca catechu) and slaked lime (chuna; calcium hydroxide). Out of which the khasi women only apply slaked lime paste on the betel leaf.
