Pondicherry or Puducherry which was once a village of fishermen but now it is one of the popular tourist destination in India. Pondicherry is 150 km away from Chennai. In the 17th century, a Frenchman acquired this place to establish French East India Company's training coast and with every French Governor General, the importance of Pondicherry increased and the most ambitious General was General Dupleix. There was conflict near this place between French and British but France remains the governing authority of Pondicherry. The ancient history of Puducherry and archeological excavation artifacts are kept safe in the Pondicherry Museum along with the collections of French heritage.
