But don’t be tricked by their appearance or their prey, as they are not a black bear. These are Sloth Bears, also known as the Labiated Bear, or Stickney Bear. It’s important to mention that Sloth Bears subsist primarily on termites, ants, and fruits. They are actually the only species of bear adapted specifically for myrmecophagy (ant and termite-eating) (Garshelis et al.1999) (Sacco & Valkenburgh, V. 2004).
