The Mawsmai cave is located 6km from the main town of Sohra, as Cherrapunjee is locally known. It is one of the chief attractions besides the famous waterfalls for people visiting nearby Cherrapunjee from Shillong. Mawsmai Cave is open to tourist explorations and is lit up by halogen lights in certain portions, making it a relatively easy cave for beginners to navigate. The winding wet paths inside the caves call for caution and visitors may experience flashes of claustrophobia too. The Indian state of Meghalaya is famous for its many caves, which attract tourists from India and abroad.
