Surama Ghatak recollects the old days with husband, the famous Bengali filmmaker and scriptwriter Ritwik Ghatak. She says, "During Subarnarekha we were together in Chakla. Every day we used to come and go out together. Madhabi's age was less. I used to watch in front of my eyes their shooting scene underneath the trees of Sal. Til now I can remember. After the shoot, he said to me the artists who work with me are robots. They do not know themselves what they are doing or not. I make them do what I want. But the actual work happens in the editing room. Then I make out my whole film from the things I made my actors and actresses do as a part of the sequence of the film.
