The heat wave conditions that claimed numerous lives in Andhra Pradesh during the summer months last year, has pushed the Government to initiate measures in advance to prevent large scale deaths in the event of similar conditions repeating next summer. The Government has constituted a high-level committee to prepare a comprehensive “heat wave action plan” encompassing various aspects including health and medical care, employment, nutrition and drinking water to control the adverse effects in the event of heat wave repeating and avoid fatalities. The committee, to be headed by Revenue Department principal secretary as chairman and Disaster Management wing director as member-convenor, has been asked to study the action plans adopted in different States for preparing the action plan.
