Sindoor Daan at a Hindu wedding - A bride and a groom sit at the wedding altar in Fatehpur Beri village in New Delhi. The sindoor or vermillion ceremony takes place. The groom places a smear of sindoor on the bride's upper forehead, between the parting in her hair and going back to the top of the head. He receives instructions from the pandit - pujari who is the religious master of ceremonies. The bridge and groom are handed currency notes by their elders.
