The Indian Coast Guards and the Pipavav Marine Police, in a three-hour joint operation, today rescued 17 crew members of two ships from Oman which sank about 15 nautical miles from the Saurashtra coast in Gujarat. AK Saxena, Coast Guards station commandant, at Pipavav, Amreli district, said the two ships — Abdullah and Ayman — from Oman were heading towards the Alang ship-breaking yard, Bhavnagar district, for decommissioning when they developed technical snags and started sinking. The Pipavav Marine Police station received an SOS around 10.30 am and got in touch with the Coast Guards. “We immediately dispatched two boats and staff with necessary equipment for the rescue operation,” Saxena said. All 17 crew members, including 10 Pakistanis, five from Yemen and one each from India and Iraq,
