Durga Puja is one of the biggest festivals in India. In present times Durga Puja is celebrated with a great deal of excitement and enthusiasm by a major section of people apart from the Bengalis. Bong women perform the Dhunuchi dance matching to the rhythms of the Dhak in unison and proper co-ordination. Clad in traditional sarees and salwar suits women of all age perform the dance in front of Devi Durga as a way of offering prayer to the Goddess Durga. Durga Puja evenings are incomplete if men and women, boys and girls don’t take the floor to dance to the rhythmic beats of dhaak and bells, holding earthen pots billowing a fragrant smoke.
