A wild elephant was killed when a Siliguri-bound local train hit it between Gulma and Sevoke stations near the northern West Bengal town. The Forest department removed the tusks to prevent bounty hunters from digging up the elephant. The elephant had to be buried right there as it is too heavy to lift and take away for proper burial. The tusks will be stored in the Forest department godown and destroyed appropriately. According to a senior railway official, the accident occurred when a wild elephant was crossing a rail track and got hit by a train passing at that point in time on the evening on Monday.
