Indian Army team takes up the most challenging sports on the magnificent Himalayan mountains. The holds are not very strong and firm like rocks. The holds and anchors have to be made by themselves with pistons and screws. Some of the essential tools required for ice-climbing are spike shoes or boots, ice-tools, ropes, helmets, head lamps and bealy devices. The 22-member team led by ace mountaineer Colonel Ajay Kothiyal was flagged off by Army Deputy Chief Lt Gen Ramesh Halgali on March 12. On 20th May the first summit team reached Camp-HI and the next day they reached South Col around 1300 hours. The same night the summit attempt started.
