Ear cleaner plies his trade on Puri beach in Odisha, cleaning ears sitting on sandy shore of Bay of Bengal Wearing a distinctive red cloth cap worn by all ear-cleaners, this ear-cleaner looks for clients amongst people waiting for their bus. He finds a ready customer at the bus stop and proceeds to rid him of his excess ear wax. The familiar rolled at the edges red cap is a dead giveaway that this man is a Kaan maliye or ear cleaner. He plies the roads of Indian towns and cities, hoping to find customers who need to get ear wax cleaned from their outer ear drums. This is a delicate operation and a pin or tooth pick with cotton going in too deep can puncture or even burst the ear drum. Yet, Indians opt for this and sit on a busy or dirty roadside to get the operation done, in broad daylight
