Amidst the wild ducks and waterfowl, a herd of Nilgai or Blue Bull graze in the wetlands of Keoladeo in Rajasthan. A male Nilgai is caught thigh-deep in the water while feeding on the water plants and leaves. A little farther away a group of females are also walking leisurely in the water. This is the largest antelope in Asia and endemic to India. The name is derived from the bluish colour the male exhibits after attaining maturity. Notice the short horn and the white patch on the throat of the male that is feeding.
