A crowded Muharram mourning gathering in a courtyard during Ashura, the day on which Shia Muslims commemorate the martyrdom of Imam Hussain at the Battle of Karbala. Men dressed in black participate in matam, a mourning ritual performed in remembrance of Imam Hussain. Some participants are shirtless and strike their backs with chains or blades, while other attendees watch from the marble courtyard. Large black banners bearing Arabic and Hindi text hang from the balconies, where women wearing black abayas and veils observe the gathering. Red stains are visible on the courtyard floor, and a worker sweeps one corner of the space. The footage captures a religious mourning tradition associated with Muharram and Ashura.
