KWAKTA LAMJEL (Race of Kwarta) - An episode of the epic Khamba-Thoibi love story performed by Manipuri singer Mangka and Laihui Ensemble folk musicians group during Orange Festival 2016 in Tamenglong District, Manipur. In the olden days, races, kangjei (a type of hockey), mukna (wrestling), were organised from time to time. These matches were competitions for power. The particular 'Kwakta Lamjel' in this song was believed to have been held in Moirang. The main competitors were Khuman orphan Khamba (son of a nobleman Puremba and Ngangkhaleima) and Angom Nongban, a wealthy nobleman. Kwakta Lamjel is a race for power and a common man with no supporters in the royal court can never succeed in reaching the destination.
