Morning prayer ritual of worshiping the sacred sun god and teaching his young pupil. Many Aghori gurus command great reverence from rural populations as they are supposed to possess healing powers gained through their intensely eremitic rites and practices of renunciation and tápasya. They are also known to meditate and perform worship in haunted houses. Aghoris are a Hindu sect believed to have split off from the Kapalika order (which dates from 1000 AD) in the fourteenth century AD. Aghori babas are supposed to possess powers to heal and relieve pain gained due to their intense practices.
