A Rhesus macaque sits on a street in Solan town of Himachal Pradesh, looking around nonchalantly as human beings go about their task. Is he indulging in some Desmond Morris-esque Man-catching or to be more politically correct people-watching? More macaques sit on the roof top of a building.... The macaques constitute a genus (Macaca) of Old World monkeys of the subfamily Cercopithecinae. Aside from humans (genus Homo), the macaques are the most widespread primate genus, ranging from Japan to Afghanistan and, in the case of the barbary macaque (Macaca sylvanus), to North Africa and Southern Europe.
