The priest first washes the hands of all the girls and their feet are rinsed by another woman. This is followed by wiping off with a dry cloth and applying red alta on their feet, a traditional Indian practice which must surely have inspired Christian Louboutin! Kumari Puja, a special attraction of Durga Puja festival is held to celebrate this faith through ceremonious worship of young girls in sense of Divine Mother. Kumari Puja is called Kanya Pujan in North India. The same rituals are performed to worship the Kumari (young unmarried girl) and the same offerings are made to her as those during the worship of Goddess Durga.
