Karan Johar discusses the title and inspiration behind his film Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna. He explains that several title options were considered and that he wanted a more positive title because the story already contained an emotional and tragic element. Johar recalls that while he was in London on a writing trip, he overheard a couple having an emotional but remarkably civilized breakup conversation in a café. The experience made him think about how many relationships exist around people without them necessarily noticing or understanding them. He also recalls initially wanting to make an intimate and human drama, although the film eventually became much larger in scale than he had originally imagined.
