The preparations for 66th Republic Day are in full swing, even as temperature plummets to new lows in Delhi. Defying extreme cold and fog, soldiers, policemen, school children and dance troopers continue to rehearse for the grand event, celebrated on January 26. The weather conditions continue to remain unfavourable, with chilling winds making it worse. Republic Day celebrates the coming into force of its constitution. In India, Republic Day honours the date on which the Constitution of India came into force--on 26 January 1950--replacing the Government of India Act (1935) as the governing document of India. The Constitution was passed in the Constituent Assembly of India on 26 November 1949 and was adopted on 26 January 1950 with a democratic government system, completing the country's t
