Chhath Puja is an ancient Hindu festival dedicated to Surya Dev (the Sun God) and Chhathi Maiya, observed with deep faith and discipline, primarily by people from Bihar, Jharkhand, eastern Uttar Pradesh, and Nepal. In cities like New Delhi, devotees gather along riverbanks such as the Yamuna, ponds, and ghats to perform sacred rituals. One of the most significant rituals of the festival is Sandhya Arghya, performed at sunset. Families stand together in water, offering arghya (water offerings) to the setting sun using traditional bamboo baskets filled with fruits, sugarcane, thekua, lamps, and flowers.
