Chartered Bank Building at 4 Netaji Subhas Road, Calcutta now Kolkata in West Bengal. This Heritage Building belonged to Maharaja of Bardhaman and was leased out to Chartered Bank (now known as Standard Chartered Bank). Chartered Bank operated on the ground floor, while Bird & Co had its Head Quarters in the 1st and 2nd floors. North British Mercantile Insurance Company in Kolkata. this is a typical British commercial building of the era. Oriental Life began its journey on the 5th of May, 1874, from Bombay (Mumbai). The company was started by Mr. Duncan McLauchlan Slater, Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries, with Kamrudin Tyabji, Raghunath Narayan Khote, Jehangir Rustomjee Mody and 9 other wealthy Indians.
