As must reduced factory-made goods increasingly threaten India's handicraft heritage, these exquisite objects are on the endangered list. With them could vanish the centuries-old traditions of specialised community and family occupations. The only source of livelihood for countless Indian artisans and a large and precious part of our cultural vocabulary. New Delhi's National Handicraft and Handloom Museum is a skilful attempt to counter the decline and patronage crafts by making urban India and the world at large aware of their beauty, utility and significance.
