The Indian Gazelle is endangered. Indeed, even well known Bombay film stars have been caught hunting them in Bishnoi country around Jodhpur. See a small group of them grazing on Zizyphus jujuba or ber shrub leaves, despite their thorniness. These Chinkar thrive in the vicinity of Bishnoi community villages that afford them shelter and protection as part of their religion and an age-old pact of protection.
