Bend It Like Beckham is a fairy tale which is based in Southall, London. The story is about a Punjabi girl who is very keen to play football but her family things football is not a female sport. So the film is about the girl trying to keep her parents happy, her community happy, her friends happy, but also follow her dreams. I always wanted to make a movie on two topics. So Britishers love football and Indians love weddings, so through this film, I was able to bring both the aspects together. Gurinder Chadha was born in Kenya and grew up in Southall, London, England. She began her career as a news reporter with BBC Radio, directed several award-winning documentaries for the BBC, and began an alliance with the British Film Institute (BFI) and Channel Four.
