Nestled in the majestic Himalaya, Kumaon is located in the North Indian state of Uttarakhand. Kumaon has its own distinct and impressive traditions, festivals and culture. To truly experience this tradition and culture of Kumaon, one must witness a Kumaoni wedding. Kumaoni weddings are refreshingly simple and there is no garish display of wealth. A typical Kumaoni wedding is preceded by various other small ceremonies. The first of these varied ceremonies of a Kumaoni wedding is the ‘Haldi’ ceremony.
