Any perceived future gain from hydro power projects in north-east India is greatly offset by current environmental costs. While politicians get kick-backs from construction companies from projects that get funded by large international banks and development projects, the present is always fraught with displacement for local people, fleets of trucks that raise dust and need roads (the construction leads to more damage), heavy concrete construction and so much more...
