The effects of the economic recession can be seen in the government. According to Finance Ministry, downfall in tax recovery of 1400 crore rupees was recorded during the first two months of the financial year 2001-2002. The government recovered 15,000 crore rupees as custom and excise taxes in the same financial year, whereas in the previous financial year there were 16,400 crore rupees recovered in the same time duration. Prof. J. D. Agarwal, Economical Analyst speaks about the recession. He says, "The reason for this recession is the reduction in tax rates. The exports are taking place through unofficial channel instead of official channel."
