Rampant over construction in Mussoorie and Landour bazaars is an earthquake disaster in the making. Imagine - these are 4, 5 and 6 storey buildings hanging on to the edge of a steep and unstable hillside with simple concerete pillars, with much water activity during the monsoons, thus weakening the sarias or steel rods within those pillars. All an earthquake and monsoon disaster in the works... Landour Bazaar in Mussoorie is a crowded mass of multiple storey buildings built at the edges of hill slopes and roads, standing on mere cement pillars dug into the lower ground below, and stand a very high degree of earthquake susceptibility.
