With a backdrop of rocky hillocks, a small herd of Blackbucks (Antilope cervicapra) grazes in the open grassland of Jayamangali Blackbuck Reserve in Karnataka. The state animal of Punjab is now a threatened species due to hunting and habitat loss due to human habitation, industrialisation. The males' anatomy is recognizable because of the V-shaped horns with ring-like ridges and a dark glossy coat and a white underbelly. Horns are absent in females and smaller in juvenile males.
