Viju Khote: "I think people from the South Indian film industry handle politics much better because they are more involved in it and understand its workings. In the Hindi film industry, however, actors generally are not suited to being part of the political world. I believe Rajesh Khanna made a mistake by entering politics. If I had advised him, I would have told him not to do it. Political parties used him as a strong public figure to counter another political leader. He won the election and perhaps got carried away by the success. Acting and politics are two very different fields. Very few actors have successfully made the transition. Internationally, Ronald Reagan did it successfully. But in India, especially in the Hindi film industry, most actors are better off focusing on their work.
