The Government has all the powers to stifle the protest and call for justice that is happening in Delhi, but they don’t seem to have enough power to stop crimes like rape. The fact remains that rape cases are underreported to begin with. Nonetheless, in Delhi itself, police records show that this is the fifth case of sexual abuse of a minor reported in just one week in April. An article in the New York Times blogs, says that in 2011, 2,582 rape victims in India were less than 14 years of age, or about 10 percent of the total number of reported rape cases. Incidents of rape have been going on for a long time now and the government never took any initiative to bring any strict law for this. So now it’s high time the people of India have realised it.
