Chakhesangs Naga tribe perform at Nest Fest in Delhi

Chakhesangs are the former Eastern Angami, who have separated from the Angami Naga tribe, and are now recognized as a separate tribe. It is a major tribe of Nagaland. Most of the villages of this tribes falls under the Phek District and Pfutsero, Chozuba sub-division of Nagaland. The tribe is basically divided into two groups known as “Chokri” and “Khezha”. Originally Chakhesang consisted of three major sub-tribe, namely “chokri”,“khezha” and “sangtam”, from where the word chakhesang came from, taking the first syllable of each tribe namely “cha” from “chokri”, “khe” from “khezha” and “sang” from “sangtam”.
