Berberis aristata growing in Uttarakhand, India. Berberis aristata, also known as Indian Barberry or Tree Turmeric, belongs to the family Berberidaceae and the genus Berberis. The genus comprises approximately 450-500 species of deciduous evergreen shrubs and is found in the temperate and sub-tropical regions of Asia, Europe, and America. B. aristata is native to the Himalayas in India and in Nepal. This also naturally found in the wet zone of Sri Lanka. Berberis is an important ingredient in various medicines including Liv52, a liver tonic. Called kashmal or kingor in Garhwal, Uttarkhand, the leaves can be eaten as they contain a high level of Vitamin C. These shrubs were filmed in April 2015, at the Wilderness Orchard and botanical gardens in the Uttarakhand Himalaya. The fruits of the s
