Stabilized Electro-Optical Sight of DRDO being displayed during International Fleet Review in Andhra Pradesh, organise by Indian Army. Electro-optical sensors, typically containing a charge-coupled device (CCD) camera, a thermal imaging (TI) camera, and an eye-safe laser range finder (ELRF), are used to carry out surveillance and tracking of target regions and targets, respectively. These electro-optical sensors are mounted on a two-axis gimbaled structure to provide freedom in azimuth (yaw) and elevation (pitch). Maintaining the orientation of sensors toward a target is particularly challenging when the electro-optical sensors are carried on a harsh mobile platform such as a tank or when the target is highly dynamic.
