Aerial view of Thiksey Monastery. It is situated 18 km from Leh in the valley of Indus river. Thiksey Monastery is the largest monastery in central Ladakh district in Jammu & Kashmir. The Thiksey Monastery is settled on the hilltop and is home to around 120 monks. Thiksey Monastery courtyard is beautifully decorated in traditional Ladakhi architecture against a backdrop of snow-covered mountains one can have the detailed view of the Himalayas and the road followed to the Thiksey Monastery. The monastery buildings are structured in hierarchal order. It is a massive twelve storey monastery complex with a number of stupas, statues, thangkas and wall paintings.
