1970's imagery from Calcutta city. Construction goes on atop a new multi-storeyed building location while the city moves ahead at its own pace. Yellow taxi cabs on the street and ancient-looking buses ply the streets of Calcutta. A viewer tells us rather insightfully: "Footage is between 1978 and 1986. Everest building was completed in 1978, camera pans to it, rhs to Tata Centre while facing Maidan, and the under construction building is the Jeevan Deep building, which was completed in 1986." The Victoria Memorial looks as grand as ever, from afar. Hindustan Ambassador cars and Fiat taxis rule the roost. What's that car right at the end of the clip? Doesn't it looks suspiciously like a Lotus sports car? Or is it s Standard 2000 car?
