The Kolkata tram is the only transportation network of its kind in India.It is also the oldest operating electric tram in Asia operated under the Calcutta Tramways Company, popularly called CTC. Besides being considered as the Smoothest and most comfortable mode of public transport in Kolkatta, it is mostly prefered because it is Speedy, Avoids traffic congestion, environment friendly, Affordable and have higher carrying capacity.The coaches are a 60 seated single-decked cars with a carrying capacity of 200 passengers.Trams were introduced by the then-Viceroy of India, Lord Curzon. Kolkatta Trams network dates back to 1902.
