A group of christians having a prayer fellowship at a church in Assam afflicted with Leprosy. The good news is that leprosy is curable with multidrug therapy (MDT). However, although official detection rates for leprosy are declining (over half a million new patients are diagnosed and registered for treatment every year), leprosy is still a disease of our time. Many people often do not seek treatment for fear of social exclusion, so the actual number of new cases is probably much higher. Assam has already reached the goal of Leprosy Elimination, i.e. PR below 1 per 10,000 populations at state level by 31st March 2001and at district level 18 districts (78%) out of total 23 districts also achieved elimination. By 2004 December all the 23 districts had attained the level of leprosy eliminatio
