The Phoenicopterous minor or Lesser Flamingo is a species in the Flamingo family of birds found in the Little Rann of Kutch. Inspite of the fact that numerous species of the flamingo, they are classified as near -- threatened. The reason being that they are declining in population and have very few breeding sites. Human activities are a major reason for the slow but sure disappearance of the flamingos. Flamingos often stand on one leg, the other tucked beneath the body. They produce crop milks, like pigeons and doves, due to the action of a hormone called prolactin. Their oddly shaped beaks are specially adapted to separate mud and silt from the food they eat, and are uniquely used upside-down.
