Painted Sandgrouse at Hinauta plateau, Panna National Park, January 2011. The Painted Sandgrouse (Pterocles indicus) is a medium large bird in the sandgrouse family found in South Asia. The male is the more colourful of the two, while the female is a duller brown and follows the male around in this shot. Both are acutely camouflaged when seen in their grassland desert-like habitat.
