A Nehru Institute of Mountaineering instructor gives an introduction to rock climbing to trainees in the mixed winter adventure course.The instructor explains the importance of wearing a helmet and using rubber soled rock climbing or PA shoes (named after Pierre Alain) for grip. He also explains the need for a sling or a short rope. He goes on to explain that there are two types of climbing: Free climbing or bouldering (without the use of technical equipment. It is used when climbing 10 to 15 foot high rocks). Aid climbing (done using technical equipment. It is used when climbing rocks higher than 15 feet).
