Probably the only video where you see a monk leading the prayer wearing cool sunglasses. At the Naropa festival 2018 in Hemis, monks from all around the world gather. The harsh sun of the high altitude desert of Ladakh gets even the monks to put on sunglasses during the afternoon for protection for the high UV rays at that altitude of the Himalaya. Hemis is an idyllic village in Ladakh, in Northern India . The town is just over 40 km southeast of the town of Leh. Hemis is home to the Hemis Gompa a pre- 11th century monastery that was re-established in 1672.
